About the event
Back for their second visit to Hermon after recording their critically acclaimed live EP during their last visit. Here's what Blues Matters magazine had to say about it:
"Here is another excelent live release with his band, Bo Lee on bass guitar and Iain Mellor on percussion. They are a cohesive trio and really add a full-bodied sound to Rowland's seven tunes. He is a great storyteller and accomplished songwriter mixing all flavours of blues rooted music peppered with soul and Americana roots music. Recorded at Hermon Chapel Arts Centre this captures the notation and artistry of a fine guitarist and here Rowland's vocals are stronger and resonate well with the band. True True Blues starts things off, mellow almost latino effects here, clear vocals meet a mellow groove. Always Thought is a slow love ballad, with a smokey blues club feel sung with reflective tones full of passion. Listen to the lyrics on A Million Ways, so cutting and precise, with a backbeat to get lost in.
Don't Play With Fire moves the tempo up but again the lyrics are the key, the trio let themselves get into a groove here, divine. Never Been To Memphis is another upbeat blues tune, a great arrangement of this song incorporating various themese, the tempo rises throughout giving the audience a night to remember."
Having grown up in the Blues boom of the 60's, Â Rowland Jones' music is rooted in the blues but years of playing other genres of music has resulted in material that has been described as 'Soulful Americana and contemporary Blues'. His songs have been favourably compared to the work of John Martyn, Mose Allison, Jim Croce and Bill Withers. His most recent solo album, which he describes as the 'imaginatively titled 'Rowland Jones - LIVE!' has been nominated in the Best Live CD category of The 2021 Independent Blues Awards.
This evening, he will be performing with his band The Moveable Feast – the name being a reflection of the number of fine musicians who have been a part of this project including  C.J.Hillman (Billy Bragg, Laura Marling, Ethan Johns) Mikey Wilson (Corinne Bailey Rae) and Paul Burgess (10 cc, Martin Barre, Chris Farlowe) Tonight Rowland is joined by legends Bo Lee on bass and Ian Mellor on percussion both well-respected musicians in the North West. You can look forward to an evening of strong melodies, well-crafted lyrics and good grooves.
